Everyone carries unique gifts that define them as a person. These gifts can be a talent, such as singing, or a personality characteristic like being compassionate. A gift can help you find your passion in life, attract people with similar interests, find your dream job or create a business.

In short, a gift is something that you do effortlessly that others struggle to do. Often, our gifts come into view when we are in community with others. Gifts can be built upon with training and encouragement overtime and relate closely to some of our deepest inclinations.

Not sure of what your gift is? Use these tips to define what your ultimate gifts are.

Start a journal

Writing in a journal is a great starting point for defining your gifts. In addition, writing can help you put any ruminating thoughts about your passions onto paper that you can come back to when you’re feeling lost or unsure of where you are in life.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself about your gifts:

  1. What did you enjoy doing as a child?

  2. What are your passions as an adult?

  3. What areas of your life are the most important to you?

  4. What are your short and long-term goals?

Find new activities that require you to utilize your gifts

Think about what your gifts are and find activities where you can implement them into your life. These activities can help you find your ultimate purpose in life and enhance your gifts. Pay attention to the aspects of these activities that make you most excited.

Also, ask yourself, who do you become in a group? Are you always the leader? Are you the great communicator? These things are signs of what our gifts may be.

Speak with your family, friends, and colleagues

If you’re still unsure about your gifts, ask trusted people around you for their perspective. Sometimes others notice things in us that we may find hard to pinpoint in yourself. Speak to various people, and see if you notice any recurring ideas.

Defining your gifts can be a challenging task. At the end of the day, taking action, despite not knowing the full picture of your gifts, is better than stalling your life to figure it out. Our gifts are illuminated through the process of taking on new challenges. While there isn’t one specific method for finding your gifts, the above tips are a great starting place. Once you define your gifts, you’ll ultimately find clarity and direction towards your true passions in life.
