8 Tips for Job Interviewing After Graduation

If you are in the Class of 2009 and haven't yet found a job, there are still plenty or career options for you. You have to be prepared, be flexible and be willing to "pound the pavement" so to speak. Too many new grads are checking out of the job search by saying there is nothing out there for them.

Here are 8 tips for doing job interviews after graduation.

1. Check in with your HBCU career center. Many career centers have been working with an increasing number of alumni. If nothing else, have one of the career advisors take a look at your resume.

2. Stay confident in the job search. Don't think you are the only unemployed college graduate. You are not. Remember that college hiring was down 22% this year.

3. You still only get one chance to make a good first impression. Dress appropriately and conservatively. There will be plenty of time to bring personal style to the job.

4. Watch the fundamentals. Be punctual, friendly and watch personal technology etiquette. Stay off the cell phone during the interviews!

5. Think about short term and land something in a good company which could lead to a better career opportunity.

6. Look for transitions. If you are Hospitality major and have a great job at a restaurant with a national brand, talk to managers about transitioning into a manager trainee role. Don't just walk away if you are in the industry.

7. Get connected with a staffing firm and have a recruiter advocate for you. Many companies are taking on temporary staff, even though they are not increasing the employee head count right now.

8. In addition to your online job search - create an "on-land" strategy. Get up from behind your computer and go meet employers at networking events, meet-ups, job fairs and open houses etc.
Embrace these tips and your next interview could be the step to your first year on the job!

good tips. Don't forget to expand your network. Try to ask for advice rather than ask for jobs.
